Assessment in Music for Outstanding Progress

Music Courses for Teachers

Course description

This course will explore a range of assessment strategies for use in music at Key Stages 3 and 4 to show outstanding progress.  There will be an emphasis on adapting to 'Assessment without Levels' by exploring various systems that can be adapted to suit your own school's reporting needs without compromising the quality of music assessment.

The day will start with a look at how schools throughout the country have developed assessment strategies for music and how they are compatible with whole school reporting systems.  The merits of each approach will be examined and we will discuss how different school contexts would impact upon which strategy to implement.

Towards the end of the day, you will work to develop your own assessment strategy for implementation in your school.  You will work with the expertise of the course leader to create resources that meet the needs of musical learning but satisfy the needs of senior leaders in your school.

You will leave the day with a well-researched and carefully considered assessment strategy tailored perfectly for your school environment and you will have a bank of alternative strategies for future consideration.
