Teaching the Drama Written Exam: keeping Drama practical and maximising results
Drama courses for teachers

Course description

The focus of this course will be on fully embracing the GCSE Drama Written Exam to access higher grades and optimum progress.

The day will begin with practical activities that can be used when teaching the written paper. You will make the important link between the practical activities that preparation for the written paper demands, and how they serve to support the skills required in the other two exam components.

You will engage in effective practical exercises that will specifically support the study of the set text and secure students’ interest in knowing the text.

Towards the end of the day, you will practice embedding exam techniques and consider approaches to developing a ‘theatregoers’ eye’ in your students. You will also examine current practice and assess changes needed to meet these new requirements.

Ultimately, this course will support you in generating in your students, a passion for the function of text, and writing, within drama. This, in turn, will lead to a successful course that not only plays to students’ strengths, but also develops them further than previous specifications have done.

The course is aimed at all teachers of GCSE Drama and will refer to the Edexcel and AQA exam boards.
