Singing for the non-specialist
This course is for anyone that doesn’t hold singing as their specialism and is struggling to engage pupils and get good results in this area of the music curriculum. It will prove that anyone can sing and ensure every student overcomes their fear, enabling them, and you, to enjoy it whilst gaining outstanding results.
Having to deal with apathy or fear of singing is a big challenge for any music teacher and yet it is the most accessible and useful skill any musician can have. In this course you will explore best practice when teaching singing and harmonies and be shown exemplar material that is proven to get results. You’ll look at how you can integrate singing into your curriculum so it becomes second nature to students and teachers. You will look at ways to develop your current KS3 singing units so this skill can feed successfully into KS4. You will also be given excellent resources that are proven to gain high grades.
The day will include ways of tracking the progress of singing to show outstanding results. You will be shown how you can implement a progression framework in an easy and accessible way for both students and teachers.
This very practical course will look at teaching strategies that will engage students whilst keeping a focus on the quality of singing. Teachers will come away from the day with a wealth of resources and expert knowledge to enable all students to gain outstanding results via singing in music.
N.B. Teachers will need to bring a laptop to this course, and if possible, a Ukulele!
