Textiles and Print work in Art, Design and Technology

Course Description


This course is for teachers of Art and Textiles who wish to expand on or develop new skills to take back to the classroom.


With the upcoming changes to the GCSE and A-level structures, now is a fantastic opportunity to reinvigorate your schemes of work, media and techniques.  Whether you are choosing a stand-alone Textiles course, or you are simply looking to offer a wider variety with Art and Design, this course will give you a variety of practical print and textile methods that can be furthered developed in school.


In this fully practical day, you will look at schemes of work proven to gain high results, excellent exemplar material and ways of achieving high quality results practically with the resources you have available at your school.


Techniques Covered


Block Printing

  • Practical exploration using Easy Cut Lino

  • Other methods and combinations pros and cons – including string and card and press print.

  • How to develop projects and schemes of work with block print.

Heat Transfer

  • Practical exploration of heat transfer using disperse dyes.

  • Alternatives and variations.

  • Project development, costs and suppliers.



  • How to develop stencil work – layering with a variety of methods / media.

  • Large scale project potential.

  • Using Stencils to teach PSHE and RE topics effectively – the wider curriculum, arts weeks etc.

Other Options

  • Felt making, weaving, rag rugging, applique and more! 



  • Teach a range of textile techniques confidently, to achieve high levels of pupil progress.

  • Create exciting, vibrant and varied schemes of work, to motivate even the most reluctant learners.
    Produce practical textile techniques within your school - money saving tips, suppliers etc.

  • Gain high results in GCSE and A level.

  • Develop your own creative practice.

  • Fully practical, hands on day.
